Bibirioni ward MCA Antony Macharia Kimani has urged the government to speed up the issuance of national Identification Cards (IDs) to eligible Kenyans ahead of the 2017 general election.
The MCA said many Kenyans and more so youths who have reached the eligible age for acquisition of IDs don’t have the vital document.
The MCA noted that youth will get a chance to participate in the coming elections only if they get IDs.
According to the ward rep, it is a right for every Kenyan who has reached the eligible age to be issued with an ID.
“The government through the Interior ministry should speed up issuance of IDs to eligible Kenyans for them to register as voters ahead of the 2017 elections,” he said when he addressed journalists in Limuru town on Tuesday.
Macharia said Kenyans will be able to elect the leaders of their choice if they are allowed to register as voters.
Meanwhile, the MCA who is also the Kiambu assembly deputy speaker wants political aspirants eyeing various seats in the county to engage the people in issued based campaigns.
The MCA says that some aspirants are employing the use of propaganda and other malicious tactics against their opponents.
“Political aspirants must engage Kenyans in issued based campaigns instead of propaganda,” he said.
Macharia also asked locals not to be swayed by selfish politicians who are out to achieve personal interests.
