Parents of children with cerebral palsy In Mavoko sub-county of Machakos county have been advised to register with National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) to enable their kids to access medication easily.
Speaking on Friday during a training for caregivers in Athiriver doors Of Hope Programs manager Jackline Shibalira said that kids with cerebral palsy are prone to diseases and need medical attention regularly.
Shibalira who recently opened a Cerebral Palsy therapy Centre and school urged parents to ignore misinformation and myths about cerebral palsy and take their kids for therapy.
She said that this centre will enable the caregivers to find jobs and cater for their families since many of them had quit their jobs to take care of their kids.
“Kids with cerebral palsy are susceptible to diseases and conditions like diabetes, epilepsy, and convulsion and need medical assistance every now and then if their parents are not registered with NHIF they will be forced to dig deep into their pockets to cater for medication", said Shibalira.
She advised the parents to bring the kids for therapy consistently for positive results.
She, however, warned the parents against conducting the therapies on their own in order to avoid accidents.
