The county government has allocated Sh100 million to be given out to Saccos.
Most of the saccos set to benefit from the fund are those run by bodaboda operators, the county government said on Tuesday.
Governor Jack Ranguma said the funds will only be given out to organised Saccos with sound financial management.
Mr Ranguma said the funds should be put into proper investments by the Saccos to help them grow and expand their memberships.
“I want to ask the bodaboda operators that when you receive these funds please identify an investment project and dedicate your time developing it,” he said.
Speaking in Kisumu when he presided over the launch of Manyatta Bodaboda Sacco, the Ranguma urged the riders to form Saccos to be able to benefit from the fund.
He said the Saccos will help in self regulation of the bodaboda sector that has been accused of among other things engaging in criminal activities.
Ranguma said currently there is no order in the sector and implored them to organise themselves and have numbers and identifications.
He further announced that his government will give out motorbikes to organised groups as an incentive.
“I know that there are 34 bases of motorbike riders, please form these bases into Saccos, get organised and start collecting funds among yourselves before you apply for the county funds,” he said.
