An official in the county said on Friday that Matungulu constituency has the least number of people acquiring national IDs.

Speaking to this reporter on Friday, sub-county Deputy Registrar of Persons Paschalia Nzau said the constituency has a low number of voters compared to other electoral areas.

Mr Nzau also disclosed that he is afraid that they may not reach their target if more people do not turn up to be registered.

He confirmed that although more than 11,000 identification cards had been issued, less than 500 people were registered as voters.

"It is a pity that although many people have identification cards, very few have turned up to register themselves."

He also said that the people were ignorant of the importance of having a voters card and called on leaders to sensitise people during meetings and also the chiefs to speak of the same during meetings.

"Leaders from this area should tell the people the importance of being a registered voter because the people may listen to them," added Nzau.

Mr Nzau said he has high expectations of the turn up increasing if the leaders play their part.
