Registration certificates have been issued to more than eight primary schools in Nakuru so that candidates for this year’s KCPE exams may be registered.
County director of education Esther Muiru said the ministry delivered the certificates to ensure the schools would not be locked out from serving at testing centers.
“We have issued the certificates to enable the schools in various sub-counties meet the guidelines of the Kenya National Examinations Council,” said Muiru.
The council issued a circular on January 15th 2014 demanding that only registered schools should be allowed to enroll candidates for Standard Eight and Form Four examinations.
The circular copied to all county directors of education and Teachers Service Commission coordinators, and the KNEC threatened not to register candidates from schools that fail to submit their school registration certificates.
“We will delete names of schools that fail to submit the registration certificates from the council’s database and learners registered as private candidates in district private candidate centers.” The circular read.
It further stated that KNEC required all schools to submit valid registration certificates from the Ministry of Education to the council.
Last year a teacher’s union differed with the KNEC on a move to lock out schools without registration certificates from serving as examination centers.
