The government has once again extended birth certificates acquisition after the first extension deadline that ended on 31st of March left about 3 million students unregistered
Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed says the government has taken consideration the challenges faced by parents and guardians during the acquisition of birth certificates and that the process now remains continuous.
“We will continue the process of issuing birth certificates, we have spoken to interior ministry to facilitate," said the CS
Long queues characterized Mombasa Civil Registration office, along Digo road in the last few weeks as parents and guardians went all-out to get their children birth certificates.
Birth certificates are mandatory for registration under the new national education information examination system.
Meanwhile, over 663,000 Form Four students have so far registered to sit this year’s KCSE while 1,060,000 more in Standard Eight have registered to sit the KCPE exam across the country.
After extending the deadline for certificates, which gave a reprieve to parents and guardians, the CS was so hard on school heads. She said all school buses that have not been painted yellow will not be allowed to operate.
Traffic officers have been given strict instructions to nab school buses that have not adhered to the regulation
"We have written to the Interior ministry to enforce this." added the CS
