Father Lawrence Nyaanga, who is also the Chaplain Kisii University on Friday said the number of alcohol joints in Kisii County is on the rise.

He said some traders are operating shops selling alcohol illegally.

“We have several alcohol selling joints in town. Some traders have no licenses while others have forged the licenses. Governor Ongwae should order a crackdown to arrest illegal traders because most of alcohol selling joints are located near schools, churches and hospitals,” he said.

Nyaanga said the education standards in the county will be affected because most students are accessing alcohol shops to buy illicit brews such as whiskey, wines, and spirits.

“The county should expect poor performance in national exams if the shops selling alcohol will not be regulated by the county government,” he added.
