The ministry of health and environment in Kisii county has been challenged to make sure that water vendors in town sell clean water for consumption.
According to community clinical officer Kepha King’oina, it is the mandate of the ministry of health in partnership with environmental and water departments to make sure that residents get clean water .
Speaking at Kisii town King’oina urged the ministries to make sure that all water vendors in town are licensed and regulated.
In addition, King’oina said that most of the springs were vendors get water are contaminated because of the sewers close to them.
“Recently we had sewers problems in Mobamba which we suspected contaminated many rivers and springs before it was fixed by GWASCO," said King'oina.
"Due to that we urge that water vendors be regulated and their sources of water to be known for health purposes of residents,” said King’oina
In addition, he said that if water cannot be regulated once there is an outbreak of waterborne diseases it will affect many residents.
Osborn Nanga is GWASCO technical manager he said that they have measures in place of regulating water vendors in town as it has been seen as a business that is attracting many people.
“We have measures in place of regulating water vendors and we will make sure that they are licensed before operating within the county,” said Nanga.
