The children are allegedly becoming a nuisance to the area resident.

This comes after many residents of Thika complained about the harassment by the street children in various streets as early as 6pm where they steals from the public especially women.

She also raised concerns over the high number of drug abuse being perpetuated and spearheaded by the children who are on the street.

Chania, who is also the Liquor Regulation Board chairlady, revealed that many toxic drugs are being supplied by the street children who are as young as 12 years old.

She said that the county government should step in and rehabilitate the children and clean up Kiambu County to ease the fear of residents.

“I had earlier asked the Kiambu Government to at least chip in some cash to rehabilitate the street children and drug addicts. I am still waiting for the governor to summon me on the same,” said Chania.

Chania who was speaking in Thika town said that she was willing to partner with any organisation to help the street children in education as well as to live a good life as normal children.

She however warned parents who neglect their children due to absenteeism from home leading to their children resorting to live in streets out of frustrations.

Chania added that they will launch investigations of the whereabouts of the street children in Thika town adding that those found to be having family their parents would be brought to book.

“We will probe and prosecute those parents who leave their children to be ‘chokoras’ for infringing the right of child education and good life,” warned Chania.
