Shs. 50,000 has been donated to Katani Community of Athi River District in Machakos County in aid of rehabilitation of a community bore hole.

Speaking during the donation in the village on Tuesday, Mavoko MP Patrick Makau said the project which was being supported by the area CDF was geared towards ensuring easy water accessability to members of the community.

Makau said that the region was so remote and dry that clean water for domestic use still remained nightmare to the residents hence need to rehabilitate the bore hole that broke down several months back.

He disclosed that apart from the members of the community, if rehalitated the dam will also serve public and private institutions such as schools, churches, health facilities and mosques.

The legislature called on the residents to unite so that they all work towards protecting the important resource, what would be the only source of water for domestic usage in Katani village.

Makau lamented that the people most of who are women and children who engage in collecting water spend lots of their productive time travelling long distances to source for the important but scarce commodity in the region.

The MP said his office was committed to dig and construct more bore holes and water points in Katani, a project he disclosed would be implemented in the entire constituency.

He called on the county government to also intervene by constructing dams in each and every location within Machakos county as a permanent trategy of ending water problem in the region.
