Laikipia governor has called on the locals to shun independent candidates during the forthcoming general elections.

Speaking in Nkurutuma, Laikipia, the County chief accused independent candidates of being opposed to the reelection of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“My rivals are independent candidates because they are not supporters of the Jubilee agenda. The President needs another term to complete his transformation agenda and we, as Jubilee Party candidates, support him. How can independent candidates claim to support him yet they are not party members?” he posed.

He further took a swipe on gubernatorial hopeful Ndiritu Muriithi's candidature for doing so little to improve the residents' living standards when he served as an Assistant Minister.

“Vote for me on August because my record speaks for itself, Muriithi is gunning for governorship yet he did not do much for this region when he was Assistant Minister in the Kibaki administration,” he noted.
