Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya has urged MCAs to reject NASA proposal for the creation of people’s assemblies.Mvurya has asked MCAs not to debate the motion once it is tabled in the county assembly.Speaking to journalists in Kwale Town on Friday, the Jubilee Governor stated that the proposal to form people’s assemblies is malicious and meant to cause division in the country.He said NASA’s top leadership is championing for the formation of people’s assemblies to advance their 2022 politics.Mvurya said the country does not need such assemblies, adding that NASA leaders are planning to frustrate President-elect Uhuru Kenyatta’s government.“I am appealing to the MCAs across the country to reject NASA’s proposal that seeks to create people’s assemblies,” said Mvurya.The former Raila Odinga ally said the country is being held hostage by opposition politicians who want to take over power forcefully.“NASA leaders are desperate and we will not allow their desperation to plunge our peaceful country into anarchy,” he said.The opposition is advocating for the creation of people’s assemblies to push for further electoral reforms and subsequent presidential election. NASA on Tuesday launched and distributed the motion to county assemblies in their perceived strongholds.On Wednesday, the Siaya County Assembly become the first one to debate and pass the People’s Assembly motion.
