The People's Assembly motions that the National Super Alliance (NASA) is fronting to county assemblies in their strongholds is ill-advised and a waste of time, Uasin Gishu County Assembly leader of majority Josphat Lowoi has said.
Speaking at the assembly buildings in Eldoret town on Thursday, the Karuna/Mibeki Ward representative further claimed that opposition's move to create people's assembly is only meant at 'bringing Kenya down'.
He asked MCAs in NASA strongholds across the country to be brave and reject the unconstitutional motion.
"MCA's should know they were elected to debate issues and represent the people not to deny themselves powers and give back to people and institutions that can't make any laws and have no constitutional basis," Lowoi said.
"Assemblies, where the motion has been tabled, should be brave enough and be above board by doing the right thing. They should allow themselves to be used as a rubber stamp of things that won't work," he added.
The MCA who was the chairman of the leaders of majority across the country further challenged NASA allied legislators who feel the people's assemblies are superior to resign.
"Our constitution is very clear that people elect leaders to represent them but what NASA is trying to create is people representing themselves which is illegal," said Lowoi.
Two Assemblies, Homabay and Siaya have already passed the motion allowing the creation of people's assembly with NASA targeting at least 19 county assemblies.
NASA intends to a People’s Assembly to push for a fresh presidential election after its candidate Raila Odinga boycotted last month’s repeat presidential poll.
