Those seeking to revive the collapsed ICC cases where President Uhuru and DP Ruto were the main suspects are people who do not care about the stability of the country.Mwingi Central MP Joe Mutambu has said that the issue of ICC is not about Uhuru or Ruto, but about the country. "I would not rejoice when a brother is in trouble. We need to rethink where we were and where we are heading. Something that can jeopardise the peace of this country is not something to rejoice about whether it is during an electioneering period or not," said Mutambu on Tuesday during K24's FaceOff show.He added: "The one reviving the ICC ghosts is known because the 'mzungu' lawyer is not acting on his own. That person is not the president or his deputy because nobody would want to say, put me in trouble so that I can get votes."A few days ago the ICC prosecution expressed its regrets on the Kenyan cases that collapsed before full trial at the court and saying it is now longing for a future Kenyan regime that will fully cooperate with it to revive the cases.Speaking on the sidelines of an international justice symposium in Arusha last week, ICC’s Senior Trial Lawyer Anton Steynberg admitted to lapses in prosecutorial strategy that contributed to collapse of the cases.
Opposition Nasa and the ruling Jubilee continue to toss the issue in their campaign rallies with Jubilee accusing Nasa to be behind Steinberg's pronouncements. Nasa, on the other hand, says that Jubilee has revived the ICC issue to rally support and sympathy votes from their strongholds after failing to deliver.
