Magwanga said doctors should be released to continue spearheading pay negotiation with the government.

He said the country has fewer doctors and majority of them are also fleeing to other countries for better pay.

"Our doctors are leaving the country to other countries not because we have excess of doctors but because of poor remuneration," he said.

Magwanga said what doctors are demanding is not outrageous but a just pay.

He said what the government has lost in the last four years on corruption is enormous and what doctors are demanding is not much and should be given to them.

Speaking to the press on Tuesday in Kisumu, Magwanga, who intends to vie for the Homa Bay county gubernatorial seat said President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto must now intervene to end the stalemate.

He said Kenya has made the worst in history by jailing union officials who are out to ask for salary increment based on the work they are undertaking in public hospitals.

Magwanga said it is time for the government to expand universities, train more doctors and adjust their payments as a way of addressing brain drain.

"This mess in the Health sector can be addressed by a serious government. Expand the universities, train more doctors and give them better pay.
