A man in Mombasa County charged with groping a woman’s private parts in public has been released due to lack of evidence.
The court heard that between April and September Mr Alexander Mbondo intentionally touched the buttocks and breasts of the woman against her will.
It is alleged that Mr Mbondo committed the offense against a married woman at a bus stage and inside a shop.
The suspect however denied the charges claiming that he was attracted to the woman’s beauty and he tried to seduce her with marriage intentions.
"I have undying love for her and can't stop myself because of the beauty and I am ready to marry her anytime she accepts my proposal," he told Senior Resident Magistrate Henry Nyakweba who appeared stunned by the suspect's audacity as the people in court burst into laughter.
Mr Mbondo further told the magistrate that it was not right to be jailed for trying to entice a woman, "So I pray the court to let me free so I can marry the woman who is the love of my life," he said.
The accused who failed to raise Sh20, 000 for bond has been in custody since 2016.
The case was dismissed for lack of witnesses to testify against Mr Mbondo.
