NASA co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka now wants the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission to speed up the release of the voters register to political parties for inspection. The opposition has been in the forefront demanding a thorough scrutiny of the register after the IEBC admitted that there were cases of multiple shared registration.Already, the electoral body has awarded the tender for the voters register audit to KPMG, a move that has been challenged in court. The commission is also is seeking to hire over 41,000 temporary staff to help in the voter register verification exercise scheduled to run from May 10 until June 9, in readiness for the August 8 general election.Kalonzo at the same time insisted that NASA will have a parallel tallying centre but was quick to clarify that only the IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati is mandated by law to announce the official results. His remarks came even as Interior CS Joseph Nkaissery said he will not allow the opposition alliance to have its own tallying centre.Jubilee Party MPs have objected the NASA move while some insist that only the IEBC chairman is allowed by law to announce the official election results.Additionally, Kalonzo welcomed the court's ruling that results from the constituencies are final, and therefore cannot be altered by IEBC at the national tallying centre. The Wiper leader who spoke on Monday at Kanamai Majengo in Kilifi County, revealed that during the NASA chiefs’ meeting at Vipingo Ridge; strategies to curb rigging were discussed. The measures include among others the use of WhatsApp where NASA supporters will take photos of results announced at polling centres and send them to the alliance headquarters."This will stop vote theft like it happened in 2013," said the former VP as quoted by the Nation.
