Chase Bank customers can now breathe easy as from next week they will access services following the bank's reopening expected on Wednesday, April 27.
In a communication from the Central Bank on Wednesday, all 62 Chase Bank branches, online and mobile banking services will become available in a week time though with limited banking services.
CBK governor Patrick Njoroge said depositors will access up to Sh1 million. He said 167,000 depositors, about 97 per cent of the total of all deposits, will get their cash in full.
This follows after Central Bank of Kenya and the Kenya Deposit Insurance Corporation reached an understanding with the KCB on modalities to reopen the bank put under receivership 13 days ago and a possible acquisition of a majority stake in it.
Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB), chosen out of nine other interested lenders, will make available a management team that will assist in the receivership and will also undertake a detailed due diligence review of Chase Bank Limited.
“CBK and KCB will ensure that Chase Bank Ltd (in receivership) will have adequate liquidity for its operations. KCB will make available a management team that will assist in the receivership,” CBK said.
The closure of the bank has affected many residents of Kiambu county. The bank operates various branches in the area.
