The Employment and Labour Relations Court suspended the one month 'suspended' jail sentence that it had handed to the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists' Union (KMPDU) officials.
Led by secretary general Dr Ouma Oluga, KMPDU had filed an application, requesting for more time to negotiate with the government, on how best to end a nationwide strike, which kicked off December 5, 2016.
Milimani Law Courts, Justice Hellen Wasilwa suspended the sentence she issued earlier, and handed KMPDU five additional days, to hold talks, and end the strike.
She said the role of the Court is to give solutions, hence the 'favourable', Thursday ruling.
The officials were to be sent to jail, after a two weeks Court ultimatum to end the strike, elapsed without reaching amicable solution with government.
Doctors marched in groups, heading to the Courts in Nairobi, for the ruling, as they chanted solidarity songs.
They carried placards, mocking the government and the Ministry of Health, saying it had failed to address their plight for long.
