Jane Rasugu, from Nyaronge Primary school amassed 395 marks out of the possible 500, to emerge the top student in Masaba sub-county.

According to Rasugu, her guardians may not be able to raise the required school fees, since they are peasant farmers whose income cannot carter for their basic needs alone.

“Am in total limbo and social discomfort. There is nothing to smile about since I may miss the indispensable secondary education since my guardians are peasant farmers,” said Rasugu at her rural village in Nyaronge.

However, her concerns have received a massive boost after area MP Timothy Bosire, through his Personal Assistant Justus Omiti announced on Thursday during the New Year celebrations at Mosobeti Catholic that the constituency kitty will pay her school fees.

“We have already received the news about that brilliant girl and our MP has given a direction that she should be supported for four years in whichever school she will be admitted,” he said.

According to him, Rasugu will be funded by the constituency, not only in fee payment but also in purchasing of personal belongings.

“We will cater for even her personal belongings. Thereafter, we will expect her to submit end term reports to the constituency offices for monitoring and evaluation,” noted Omiti.

School head mistress Josephine Nyangena applauded the constituency leadership, and urged them to give similar support to many other students who excelled from various schools.
