The bags of cereals meant for starving people in Samburu that have been indicated not for sale are openly being sold in Samburu County shops, with a 50Kg bag of Beans and Rice going at Sh3,000 and Sh2,700, though the government’s label 'Not for sale' is still on the bags.

Shop owners at Suguta Marmar and Kisima said that the business has been going on for a year now, and added that people who sell the food to them are asked to deposit money in a  KCB bank account.

After making the payment, they then present the deposit slip to the store before collecting the foodstuffs, but for the fertilizer and beans, they are asked to pay in cash.

Samburu County Governor Moses Lenolkulal promised to address the issue, warning anyone found selling the relief food that they will be arrested.

According to the Kenya Red Cross Society, the pastoralists in Samburu don’t get enough relief food.
