Speaking in her Machakos town office on Wednesday while addressing the Press, Gakuria confirmed that her offices had received the relief food and would begin distributing to the most hunger stricken areas.

“We have received food from the government which is a good move but it is not enough to feed the more than 50,000 people facing hunger in our sub-counties,” said Commissioner Gakuria

She however said that they will begin distributing the foods to the elderly who are living in areas that did not receive harvests in the previous season.

Deputy Machakos County Commissioner Andrew Kimani who was also present during the Press briefing also reiterated Gakuria’s words urging the area residents to co-operate during the distribution as the office was not aware when the government will provide food next.

“We have received 550 sacks of rice, 50 sacks of beans and 30 litres of cooking oil which is not sufficient to feed everyone,” said DCC Kimani.

He added that they will distribute small portions starting with the most affected areas like Ikuni Village so that everyone in need is catered for in a fair manner without any complaint.
