[Photo|Busia County Government]Cattle farmers in Busia county can now breathe a sigh of relief after the quarantine imposed on livestock following the outbreak of Foot and Mouth and Lumpy Skin Diseases on September 13, 2017 was lifted.The assurance was given on Thursday by Busia County Assembly Agriculture Committee chairman Job Oteba while responding to a statement by Elugulu MCA Patrobas Odhiambo.Oteba said the Department of Agriculture through the CeC Dr Moses Osia had given a clean bill of health that no new cases had been reported, thus the decision to lift the quarantine."The order means that the livestock sale yards can now be opened to allow farmers to open trade in livestock. The movement of livestock within and outside the County can now resume," Oteba told assembly members.He said following the Foot and Mouth Disease outbreak, the County government would factor it in the budget for regular annual vaccination.
