The fishing industry in Kisii is set to improve after an institution introduced new fish species.
Kisii University introduced the quick maturing African Tilapia that will later be distributed to farmers in the county.
The fingerlings were introduced to the university's ponds on Tuesday by the Faculty of Agriculture.
Also introduced were cut fish and Parpas.
Kefa Gatwere, a lecturer at the Agriculture Department said the new fish species will offer farmers in the county a chance to invest in the fishing sector.
He said all the new fish species are heavier than the traditional fish which the university reared.
All the species according to the don take six to nine months to mature.
He also said the fish fetch more cash.
The don encouraged farmers to adopt fish farming as it pays.
