Journalists in based in Kisumu town now have a secure place do research, file stories and generate content for their various media houses.

The Kisumu Media Information Hub centre in Tom Mboya Estate, a few kilometers from the Kisumu Central Business District, is a project of the Kenya Correspondent’s Association (KCA).

The initiative is part of KCA’s plan to create media centres across the country.

The Kisumu Media Information Hub was established a few months ago.

“Here, we have a lot of research materials, ranging from devolution materials and election coverage publications among others,” said the Hub’s assistant Jackton Okoth.

The media hub provides room for media content generation and analysis, monitoring of journalists and provides platform for media and community monitoring and training linkages he said.

Steve Biko, a freelance journalist in Kisumu uses the centre more frequently.

He said the centre is strategically placed for easy access, with a lot of relevant materials that will provide journalists with relevant information to excel in the ever competitive media industry.

“Computers, editing software’s and WI-FI makes this centre the best place for a journalist to carry out his or her activities,” said Biko in an interview with this writer on Tuesday.

He said it is much easier and safer to file stories at the centre, instead of the cyber cafes used by most journalists especially correspondent to file their stories.
