The announcement comes amid fears that hundreds of livestock have succumbed to severe drought with thousands of human life also in danger.

Jelle also said the government has allocated Sh170m which will help in paying farmers in the first phase which targets at least 200 animals from each constituency.

"The government has finalised a program where we shall off load farmers with livestock that is in danger of succumbing to the severe drought. We are keen to ensure that the Garissa people are not left behind," he said.

"Already, we have set aside Sh170m which shall aide us to buy at least 200 animals from each constituency in Garissa County. We shall ensure that at least every homestead benefits," he added.

He said each livestock shall go for a maximum of Sh18,000 while the malnourished ones will attract a price of Sh15, 000, something he termed as a win-win situation for both government and farmers.
