Machakos governor Dr Alfred Mutua has directed the Department of Finance and Revenue Management and all revenue collection and enforcement agencies in the county, to stop collection of various revenues.

According to the Maendeleo Chap Chap Party leader, the move will protect vulnerable members of the business community and grow the local economy.

The Machakos county revenue collectors were asked to stop collecting fees from; hawkers, small scale vegetable retailers (Mama Mboga), small scale cereal vendors, market cess for livestock, bus park fees for Matatus, Nissans, Tuk Tuk, Maruti and Boda Boda, and the fees charged from Mitumba (second hand clothes) traders.

"I have also directed that all penalties for Single Business Permits rates charged to salons, shops, barber shops, shoe shiners, kiosks, Mpesa shops be lifted immediately," said Mutua.

Addressing the press, Tuesday, the governor noted this was agreed after consultations with various sectors.

He said government would not increase any fees on Single Business Permits. 

"Any Officer charging increased fees and or harassing traders should be reported for immediate disciplinary action," said Dr Mutua, who is seeking re-election.

This takes effect starting Wednesday June 28, 2017.
