Garissa governor Ali Korane has assured casual workers who lost their jobs in the suspended 'Ugatuzi na Kazi;' programme that they will get new jobs.

Korane said his administration held negotiations with the Youth ministry to hire the workers.

He said all constituencies, except Garissa township, will employ 900 youths aged between 18 - 35 years.

Korane noted that youths in Ijara, Balambala, Lagdera, Dadaab and Fafi constituencies will be enrolled in the new programme that is set to start.

Korane suspended the programme that was initiated by former county boss Nathif Jama citing that the hiring of the employees was not done in accordance with the law.

1,530 casual laborers majorly from poor families were enrolled in the programme.

The workers who lost the jobs protested over the decision by Korane to suspend them.

But, Korane defended his decision saying a similar programme with a proper legal framework endorsed from the county assembly will be initiated.
