Kibera residents will soon be receiving cheap bottled water from the county government.
This is in line with a new strategy from the county government to ensure that residents in major slum areas get clean water free from diseases.
The water will come in a special package that will make its production pocket-friendly.
County Health Executive Hitan Majevda has revealed that his department is in talks with water companies in the country as well as the Kenya Revenue Authority to work on specially packaged water that will be availed in the slum zones.
“Water companies such as Quencher have already shown interest in the venture and I am trying to convince them to reduce their price to below Sh10 for the slum dwellers,” said Mr Majevda.
“This will be the same water being supplied in the city except that the packaging will have a special shape, size and colouring so that it is easily identifiable and exempt from tax. It will also only be available in the slums and nowhere else,” he said.
