Tea farmers in Kisii County have a reason to smile, after the county government supplied them with pesticide that has managed to kill the strange pest that had invaded their firms.
According to tea farmers in Ogembo Tea buying center, the pest had affected the tea production in their farms, leading to loses and low income.
Irene Kwamboka, whose tea farm was the first one to have the test on said she would not explain her joy, since she depends on tea for her whole income and to take care of her children, lauding the county government for keeping their promise to eradicate the pest.
“We are happy the county office had assured us not to panic because they were trying their best to identify the best spray and they have taken the shortest time to deliver on this” said Kwamboka.
The tea pest invaded the area almost a month ago, and the farmers in the area had more fears for more loses, tea being the main cash crop in the area and earns most of them a living.
