Religious leaders from North Rift have condemned move taken by the government to close media houses terming it dictatorial and backward.
Speaking in Eldoret led by CIPK chair in North Rift Abubakar Bini, they said the government is profiling some media outlets in the country thus leading to division.
He said the move is taking back the country to dark dictatorial days, saying Kenyans should be given their right to information.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i on Wednesday said that three television stations, Citizen, KTN, and NTV will remain shut until police complete subversion investigations.
The CS said police were looking into the “role of some elements in the media fraternity who participated in the furtherance of an attempt to subvert or overthrow the government”.
The three were shut down by the Communications Authority of Kenya as they broadcast live opposition leader Raila Odinga’s “swearing-in” as the “people’s president” at Uhuru Park in Nairobi on Tuesday.
