Religious leaders in Uasin Gishu have supported the move by Cabinet Secretary for Health Cleopa Mailu of banning the banned the importation, manufacture, advertising, and sale of shisha in Kenya.

They said this is order and was overdue since the lives of Kenyans especially the youths was in danger since the majority of them were using it.

“As religious leaders we support this move since it had destroyed the future of thousands of youth who were addicted to using it, leading to them forgetting their duties,” said CIPK chairman Abubaka Bini in Eldoret town, Friday.

“We want him to also ban the use of cigarettes and bhang since they have led to the loss of lives and breakage of marriages,” added the chairman of gospel ministers Wilson Kurui.

According to medical practitioners, the ban on shisha has come at the right time as it was slowly turning into the menace. According to the medics, the one hour of shisha smoking is an equivalent of smoking more than 200 pieces of cigarette. They say that the smoking of shisha was more dangerous than smoking cigarette.

This comes after the Health Cabinet Secretary Mailu has banned the importation, manufacture, advertising and sale of shisha in Kenya and those who will be found contravening the law will be forced to pay a fine not more than 50,000 shillings, be sentenced to jail for a period, not more than six months or both.
