Religious leaders in Kisii County have been called upon to spearhead the nationwide peace and cohesion that was launched by the government.
Speaking in Kisii Cultural hall, Nyaribari Chache legislator Richard Tong'i said the religious leaders play a big role in the society and it’s high time they sensitise the people on the importance of living together and having peace and harmony.
Tong’i applauded the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government for launching the nationwide campaign to sensitise leaders on the need for peace and cohesion as the 2017 general elections approaches.
“We are just remaining with a few months to get into the elections and the leaders should ensure that they spread the message of love so that we don’t face post-election violence which is often fueled by we politicians,” said Tong'i.
He called upon politicians to unite all Kenyans and avoid divisive politics that can raise tension in the country.
The Directorate of National Cohesion and National Values in the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government says it has already held sensitisation workshops for religious leaders in ten counties.
