The National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK), has called on the National Police Service, to assure Kenyans, that the police will not take sides in the upcoming elections.
Secretary General Canon Peter Karanja challenged all the security agencies to be impartial this campaigning period, during and after elections day, by ensuring that they do not support any political party, aspirant or harass voters.
He said this would be an assurance to Kenyans, that there will be peace even after they have voted for their respective candidates.
Speaking during a joint elections preparedness meeting that was also attended by the IEBC representatives, clergymen and community elders from various parts of the country, Tuesday in Nairobi, Karanja called on the youth to vote wisely and ensure peaceful polls.
This even as religious leaders in Lamu County called on on the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to crack the whip against politicians who use youth to cause violence in political rallies.
In a press briefing led by Ustadh Mbwana Shehe, they called on politicians to sale their agenda and manifestos peacefully without incitement or intimidating their opponents.
