Religious leaders in Nyamira County want President Uhuru Kenyatta to address the escalating conflict between the opposition and the electoral body of Kenya, IEBC.
Led by Bishop Stephen Manoti of the National Independent Church of Africa (NICA) at a press conference in a Nyamira hotel on Tuesday, they said the ongoing tension raised by the opposition in the country needed the president’s immediate intervention to assure residents in affected areas of their security.
The leaders noted that if the opposition continues to call for demonstrations, more lives may be lost and probably lead to inter wars.
“If the ongoing conflict between the IEBC and the opposition left unresolved may lead to a recipe for tribal clashes especially now that the country is nearing the general elections,” he added
He said the political tension needs to be lowered down by the president by letting a good dialogue take place and have a long lasting solution.
“We have witnessed demonstration in most parts of the country such as Nairobi, Kilifi, Kisii, and Nyamira in which property got destroyed and we are afraid they may trigger tribal fights if left unresolved he added
He called on the president to prevail upon all leaders in the county to ensure peace prevails in the largely cosmopolitan area.
