They believe the move will help the churches and other religious institutions run smoothly.

Speaking in Eldoret on Thursday, Bishop Julius Asango the chairperson of the ‘Eldoret Gospel Ministers Fellowship’ said that the county government does not give any funds to the churches.

“We do not need to peddle lies that we religious leaders are receiving money from the county government,” declared Asango.

Asango also added that rates on church facilities should be waivered, noting that churches are not doing business and therefore the rates should be done on exemption terms for them.

“Our church members are paying taxes to the government already. Making the rates on church facilities equal to others, will be double-taxing them,” explained Asango.

The leaders also urged the members of the Uasin Gishu County assembly to lobby for a move that will see the county multipurpose hall given back to use by churches.

The leaders were speaking after their annual general meeting held at the ‘Spiritual life Center church’ in Eldoret.
