Nakuru town residents have finally welcomed the county government’s move to relocate hawkers from the town centre.
Joakim Maranga, a Taidy resident, said the move has seen St Xaiver and Taidy area hurriedly being provided with streetlights.
“For more than 10 years, we have been urging the government to put streetlights in this area. It is until the time they relocated the hawkers when the project kicked off,” said Maranga.
Maranga added that for now, residents are free to continue with their business till late night without fear.
“The area is now well lit, and crime rate has reduced drastically.”
For Adrew Macharia, another resident, the new hawkers’ stalls are neat and welcoming.
“At least they have a space to put their stock. We too feel comfortable to shop in their new stalls since they are spacious,” Macharia said.
“They now need to build toilets for them and at least construct a water point,” he added.
He further urged the county government to hasten the process of ensuring all hawkers’ are relocated.
