The County Assembly of Kisumu welfare and equal opportunity committee has mandated the county government to remit over Sh 7 million to LAPFUND.
The Chairman of the committee Isaiah Onyango said the remittances of the gratuity for members have not been up to date.
Onyango said the report the committee got in their investigations indicate that the accrued gratuity arrears from April 2013 to June 2014 for elected members and from July 2013 to June 2014 for nominated members is Sh 14,097,535.
He told the assembly while giving the report that the county treasury has so far remitted only half of the amount which is Sh 7.8 million.
Onyango said the officers agreed to remit the remaining amount in March that is ending this midnight but so far no remittance.
"The money is deducted from member’s salary but that is not remitted to our statutory bodies," he said.
He further informed the house that the LAPFUND official informed the committee that according to the agreement, the gratuity is a by-product of salary and should be remitted monthly in order to earn interests.
The committee recommended that LAPFUND officials to give update to the members on the payment of the remittance of their deductions.
Further recommendations were to have the county finance officer to be summoned to the whole house to shed more light on the members’ gratuity.
