The Kenya National Anthem may no longer have the word 'God' if the petition by the Atheists Community demanding the term's removal from the anthem is considered valid.
In a press statement on Sunday, the atheists said that the presence of the word in the anthem was discriminatory since they do not believe in the existence of God in the first place.
"Our National Anthem begins with the words 'Oh God of all Creation. Not all Kenyans believe in the existence of God," read part of their statement.
"We feel that the National Anthem is not representative of us, and goes against the spirit of the Kenyan Constitution. Kenyans must endeavor to keep a separate wall between religion and state in line with Article 8 of the constitution," the statement continued.
According to the group, the Anthem will be more inclusive if the 'God' is removed.
They are targeting 6000 signatures in an online drive before they forward the petition to the National Assembly for debate.
Only 40 people have so far signed the petition.
