The Nakuru Players’ theater Society committee has refuted claims that the renovation works on the facility being funded by the county government have stalled.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, the players’ theater board members led by their chairman Francis Gachau and secretary Abdul Fatahou Laye, they said that the renovation works are still ongoing and accused unnamed individuals of politicizing the whole issue.
“The renovation process is still ongoing and as such it is unfair, unethical and unprofessional for any person of sane mind to draw and write negative conclusion on matters unfinished because as they say only corrupt minds think of corruption even in a corruption free environment,” said Fatahou.
Fatahou said that the contractor was still on site and a good percentage of the renovation works had been completed.
He cited the erection of a new roof as well as fixing of new doors at the facility as some of the work already completed.
He blamed the media for spreading falsehoods about the renovations works saying that the county government had allocated 15 million shillings for the work and not 20 million shillings as reported in sections of the media.
The board members could however not quantify the amount of work done so far when pressed hard by the media saying that it was not their duty to quantify the work done by the contractor so far.
They also accused an unnamed MCA aspirant who they claimed had paid certain members of the press to spread falsehoods about the county government funded renovation works at the facility.
A close inspection at the work already done by the contractor revealed the kind of shoddy work he was doing as some walls which have been painted have started peeling off even before theater is once again opened to the public.
The theater’s chairman Francis Gachau said that the contractor was forced to import seats and carpets from china after he failed to get them in the local market.
The works which were scheduled to be completed in three months have since dragged on past five months in what is believed to be the delay by the county government to release money to the contractor.
In a surprise confession the chairman Francis Gachau said that they were not interested in the amount of money being spent to carry out the renovations, but the quality of work being done.
“we are more interested in the quality of work being done and done they are done, they will come and tell us how much was used and how much they remained with,”
county government officials who were on an inspection tour of the facility were not willing to speak to the press.
