A somber mood has engulfed Site Estate within Athi River Township as its residents prepare to lay to rest remains of a renowned Kamba gospel artist.
Margaret Mutunga, born and bred in Athi River town passed on Monday, April 4, 2016 after a long illness according to sources close to her family.
Her remains will be laid to rest at her matrimonial home at Mathetheni village in Machakos county on Saturday.
Mutunga who was reportedly pronounced dead on arrival at a hospital in Nairobi on the fateful night is survived by a husband and children.
She was a staunch Christian who worshipped at the Athi River’s AIC Upendo Church where according to sources she served in various positions as a volunteer.
One of her friend’s, a businessman in Athi River town popularly known by his trademark brand “Issa” described Mutunga as a humble, friendly and hard working woman who was passionate in everything she was doing at the time she was alive.
Issa told this writer that she is one of the many people who enjoyed interacting with the deceased as a friend and business partner when she was alive.
“We grew up with Mutunga, she is a child of Athi River town since she was born in the town, went to school around, married and conducted her businesses around. She was running a music store at Makadara shopping centre,” said Issa.
