Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto has termed Education CS Fred Matiang’i's order of reopening of schools and teacher training colleges on January 4 as 'impractical and ill-advised.'
Ruto who spoke at Kamureito in Sotik on Wednesday said reopening schools on the same date will burden parents who have many children in various learning institutions with regards to payment of fees.
“This is totally an ill-advised idea. We cannot have schools reopening on the same day ... Parents need time to look for fees for their children who may be in various institutions of learning,” Ruto said as quoted by the Star.
“By giving this directive, it is overburdening them. Matiang’i should not come up with ideas that only seem to go his way and not consider the parents,” he added.
A circular from the CS dated October 21 stated that term one for students in pre-primary, primary, high school as well as primary and diploma TTCs will run from January 4 to April 7.
