Nakuru residents have called on the government to repaint zebra crossing points in the area.
The residents claim that most of the points have paint run off and hence cannot be recognized unless one is very near.
“We struggle to cross the roads and yet these places have not been marked properly. Drivers often ignore slowing down in the zebra crossing citing that they are not visible,” said Virginia Wanjira, a resident.
They cited that the zebra crossing at pipeline area in Nakuru was especially faint, saying that it posed a potential danger as it joined three parts of the dual carriage.
“Most drivers over-speed and jump over the zebra crossing. It becomes extremely hard to cross the roads especially in the morning when children are going to school,” said Emily Kimani, another resident.
Joackim Mwaura cited that police should install cameras to mark out the vehicles which did not stop at the crossing.
“It’s a basic rule in driving that such stops have to be respected. Drivers should stop giving excuses of not spotting them in advance. The county should advocate funds for such initiatives and not rely on the national government to paint them,” Mwaura said.
He added that in Kiamunyi near Olive inn, the zebra crossing was also worn out and in a deplorable state.
