Motorists plying the Kisumu-Busia highway have urged the government to halt the repair of the road between Kisumu and Otongolo, until the rains subside.
The motorists have cited the muddy and impassable diversions as the reason they the repair to be stopped.
Majority have complained about time and fuel wastage as they try to navigate the diversion.
The motorists have however expressed their gratitude towards the government for repairing them, but they feel that it should be done in a manner that satisfies everybody.
"For a very long time we have been asking for the repair of this road but now since it began it has been hell for us. Getting stuck in the mud has become the order of the day," said Beatrice Akinyi.
Other motorists are calling on the government through the contractor to improve conditioned on the diversions created, if stopping the repairs is not an option.
"We can have this diversions covered with murram just to take care of the muddy, because we know it will take a long time to resume normal operations,” said Peter Okumu.
The diversions created are narrow and long queues of vehicles heading to and from Kisumu town have become normal.
The motorists have faulted the government for not considering them in the whole process.
