Wangige market traders, in Kikuyu have given Kiambu County Government 14 days to improve the market’s condition or they stop paying levies to the county government.
Led by their chairman Eliud Wangai the traders said that the county government has for a long time refused to heed their calls to repair the market roofings as well as empty the latrines which have since filled up.
They have warned that after the elapse of the two weeks period they will start collecting the said levies by themselves and do what the county government has failed to do for them.
"We have written several letters and given them more than one notice but they have not taken action. We have open ditches where people have suffered fractures. Also when toilets fill up they close instead of emptying them,” Wangai told journalists.
He noted that the market is raining but the county government seem unperturbed by the issue.
“After 14 days no money will be collected by the county government. The money will be going towards improving the market,” said Wangai.
