Interior Principal Secretary, Joseph Irungu has said the repatriation exercise will start in early July 1st which will take 5 months.
Somalis will be given priority to leave the camp as they make a majority of refugees at Dadaab camp.
Irungu was speaking during a meeting that sort to outline how the repatriation exercise will be carried out.
“Our statistics as per Wednesday show that 5000 refugees have left the camp as reported on May 31,” said Irungu.
He also called upon the refugees to leave voluntarily if they can.
“We encourage the refugees who have their own means of leaving to leave without having to wait for the official exercise,” he said.
He assured the refugees that the exercise will be conducted in a humane way.
“We assure the refugees and the international community that the exercise will be conducted in the most humane possible,” stated Irungu.
