Addressing residents at Riangabi primary school on Sunday during the preparations for marking the environment day on 5 June, the Million trees Kisii initiator Isabella Lumumba encourages the residents to  replace blue gum with environment-friendly trees.

She said that the initiative will help the rural schools with Kei apple tree seedlings which will be used as school perimeter fencing thus securing the schools while keeping the children safe.

“As we are encouraging residents to plant this trees we are helping our schools with Kei apple tree seedlings as one way of helping them to embrace indigenous trees within the county,” said Lumumba.

“We don’t want to miss the rains due to the lack of trees hence I encourage all stakeholders to plant a million trees so that we can have plenty of rain in the region and also clean air,” she added.

Her sentiments were encored by Vicky Onderi who is Green Spec International director. She encourages the residents to embark into the indigenous tree planting.
