A Kisii County MCA now wants Orange Democratic Movement party Leader Raila Odinga to replace incumbent Secretary General Ababu Namwamba if at all he wants to win the presidency.
Mr Namwamba, a vocal Budalang’i lawmaker has been missing in major party functions, with his continued absence in the ongoing protests against IEBC causing eyebrows among party supporters.
But Bombaga-Borabu MCA, Koina Onyancha in a Tuesday interview with the reporter, now wants Namwamba replaced by either Suna East MP Mohammed Junet or nominated Senator Agnes Zani given his continued absence in the political arena when needed ‘most’.
“Time has come for party leader Raila Odinga to take courage and relive Namwamba of his duties if at all he wants to win the presidency. The SG has been dormant when the party needs him most but instead he has decided to take a low profile,” Onyancha said.
“The Secretary General position is critical in articulating party ideologies but Namwamba has not lived to our expectations. I think Junet or Zani can do better than him because they are vibrant enough. We want our party to be vibrant and that can’t happen if Namwmaba continues to hold the influential position,” he added.
He said the move will strengthen the party by reaching out many regions to articulate its manifesto to electorates ahead of 2017 polls.
“The position is demanding and we want to see officials reaching all regions to articulate the party manifesto. I don’t think Namwamba still has that energy and zeal and I am of the opinion that he is replaced immediately,” he added.
