An administration chief has given residents of Nyaronge village one week to report people who vandalized a borehole and destroyed it completely.
Mr. Francis Rasugu of Riamoni location on Wednesday condemned the Tuesday night incident terming it uncalled for and unacceptable in the modern society since the borehole has been vital to the region especially during dry seasons.
He asked the community to identify the criminals and submit their names to authorities in seven days for action to be taken before the government intervenes.
“I am really shocked beyond terms following this backward and primitive incident. It is completely unacceptable and uncalled for because the site benefits not the government but the society,” he said.
“I understand that you may be having a clue about the whereabouts of the perpetrators. You have only seven days bring them forward before we intervene as the government to do our job,” added the long time civil servant.
According to area residents, the motive of the vandalism was not clear since the executors only destroyed the pumping system without necessarily taking valuables.
Nyaronge water Project was funded by the government of Kenya in 2012 and serves over 200 residents from the region.
“I really do not know the exact motive of the vandals. They destroyed the water pump and never took away anything,” said Evans Ndemo a resident.
