The United Nations desk for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) has revealed that the ongoing downpours and flooding has increased health risks for residents in over 15 counties.

In an update dubbed, ‘Floods in Kenya’, which covered up to the end of last month that was released on Thursday last week revealed that Garissa, Siaya, Mombasa among other counties still face active cholera and Chikungunya transmissions. 

However, the agency says it has adopted emergency measures to curb the menace and even help the already affected households.

The UNOCHA further hinted that humanitarian efforts were ongoing. 

It says Unicef has so far provided 16,666 jerrycans, 224,000 aqua medical tabs, 15,859 pieces of soap supplies and 5,000 plastic buckets to the worst-hit counties. Furthermore, Unicef has also provided other essential supplies for cholera management. 

"We have offered 10 interagency health kits and additional 452 long-lasting treated insecticide nets. The Kenya Red Cross has also disbursed water treatment chemicals to victims. It has given 32,000 aqua tabs and over 30,000 purification tablets for al those affected," said Unicef in a tweet on Sunday.
